A contingent of over 1000 southern pilgrims led by a leading Catholic Bishop left for Madhu Tuesday, on a peace crusade to a shrine in northern Sri Lanka venerated by Catholics throughout the country. "The aim of this mission is to renew and rebuild ties between the Sinhala and Tamil people and thereby create a better environment for peace," Bishop Malcom Ranjith, Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Sri Lanka told local newspapers. They are also expected to visit the refugee camps in the Wanni.
