Indo Pakistan Foreign Secretaries to meet in Colombo
[05 May 2001]

The Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan are scheduled to meet in Colombo, during the second week of June as the SAARC preparatory Meeting. This meeting is expected to break the deadlock in holding the regional grouping's summit.

The 11th SAARC summit, scheduled to be held in the Bangladesh, was postponed due to differences, which arose between India and Pakistan. The South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) was established in 1985 at its inaugural Summit in Dhaka, Bangladesh aiming to accelerate economic and social development in member states through joint action in agreed areas of co-operation. The membership of the organisation consists of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
