Presidential Commission to inquire into helicopter crash which killed Minister Ashraff

President Kumaratunga has appointed a one-man commission of inquiry on the helicopter crash in which former Minister of Port Development, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction and Leader of the SLMC, M. H. M. Ashraff was killed in September last year.

Retired Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice L. H. G. Weerasekara who has been appointed as the one-man commission to probe the causes for the crash, has been given a period of three months to submit his report.

Minister M H M Ashraff was killed on September 16 last year along with 14 others when the SLAF helicopter they were travelling in crashed into a hillside at Aranayake, in Central Sri Lanka. He was on his way to his home constituency in eastern Sri Lanka.
