A festival of Kites will be held at the Galle Face promenade in Colombo on 23 September as a prelude to World Tourism Day. Several Asian countries are expected to participate. The competition will feature kites in categories such as large kites, creative kites, kites affording the best publicity to for its country, mechanically operated kites and exhibition kites. The best kite will receive a Presidential award, and the winner in each category will receive a hosted five-day holiday in Sri Lanka as a guest of the Ceylon Tourist Board.
