Infrastructure for higher education to be developed further

The World Bank has allocated US dollars 100 million for the infrastructure development of State Universities, Minister Indika Gunawardene said yesterday.

The funds will be used for improvements to buildings of universities, Libraries, research units, auditoriums and hostels as well as curriculum development. With upgraded facilities, Sri Lanka’s universities will be able to keep up with global trends, said the Minister.

Meanwhile, he emphasised that Sri Lankan universities will not be privatised and will continue to remain under the aegis of the State.
