President congratulates new king of Nepal

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga congratulated the new king of Nepal King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, on his accession to the Throne of the Kingdom of Nepal.

The President in her message said, "I would like to convey to Your Majesty, on behalf of the Government and people of Sri Lanka and my own behalf, our congratulations and warmest good wishes." 

The President further emphasised, that she was confident that the friendly relations which existed between Sri Lanka and the Kingdom of Nepal would be further strengthened during His Majesty's reign. "I also look forward to working closely with Your Majesty for the economic and social advancement of the people of the South Asian region within the framework of the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation." 

"Please accept, Your Majesty, the assurances of my highest consideration."
