President Chandrika Kumaratunga has transmitted a congratulatory message to His Excellency Seyed Mohammad Khatami on his re-election as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The full text of the message is as follows: Your Excellency, I have great pleasure in extending to your Excellency, my warm congratulations and sincere good wishes and those of the people and the Government of Sri Lanka on your resounding victory at the recent Presidential Election in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Your election to this high office, for a second term, with an overwhelming mandate, is a clear confirmation of the trust and confidence reposed by the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran in your vision, leadership and your commitment to promoting peace and understanding among nations through your philosophy of dialogue among civilisations. I am confident that under your dynamic leadership, the friendship and cooperation between our two countries will continue to flourish in the years ahead. I look forward to working with you in further promoting bilateral relations between our two countries, particularly in the trade and economic fields. Please accept Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration and my warm good wishes for your health and personal well being and for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
