Southern peace delegation visits North
[June 20, 2001]

A group of Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Catholic and Anglican priests are currently in the Northern peninsula carrying the message of peace.

The dignitaries are to meet their religious counterparts and civilians in Jaffna to explain the Southern people's yearnings for peace and the need to initiate a dialogue between people in the North and the South.

Secretary to the National Integration and Ethnic Affairs Ministry, Prof. Gamini Keerawella said that along with religious leaders from Jaffna a People's Peace Committee was formed Tuesday at the Jaffna Kachcheri.

The visit is a part of the North-South Exchange program of the Ministry of National Integration and Ethnic Affairs.
