Norfund and TEV invests in hydroelectric power in Sri Lanka
[June 26, 2001]

The Norwegian Investment for Developing Countries [Norfund] together with Trondheim Energiverk AS [TEV] has invested in developing hydroelectric power in Sri Lanka.

The investment of approximately Rs. 10,000,000 has been made in Nividhu Ltd., which has planned the development of a number of mini hydroelectric power plants for the production of electricity.

The first project is a relatively small-scale hydroelectric power plant. It is expected to cost Rs. 175 million, while the total investment will be around Rs. 1.5 billion.

TEV, Norfund’s primary collaborator brings a high level of technical expertise in planning, building, operations and maintenance of power plants. TEV and Norfund will each get 15% of the shares in the company with its local partner Lanka Transformers [LT] being the largest stakeholder with a 45% shareholding.
