Prime Minister appointed to act for President

President Kumaratunga who left for London this morning, has appointed Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake to exercise, perform and discharge the powers, duties and functions of the office of President until her return to the country.

The Prime Minister was accordingly sworn-in before Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva this morning at President’s House. Secretary to the President, K. Balapatabendi was also present.
