Sri Lanka Says Yes for Children
[June 27, 2001]

Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga launched the Say Yes for Children  campaign yesterday by signing the pledge in the presense of a group of children.

Say Yes for Children is a worldwide effort that reaches across the boundaries of nations, age, and gender to improve the lives of children everywhere. The programme addresses issues faced by children the world over ranging from poverty and violence to education, health care, and the environment.

The pledges of millions of people will be presented to world leaders at the UN General Assembly's Special Session on Children to be held in September this year in New York.

UNICEF announced that nearly three million pledges had been registered throughout the world so far, both through community outreach efforts and via the Web. People can Say Yes for Children at www.gmfc.org or can contact the UNICEF office at No. 5, Githanjali Place, Colombo 3.
