Business Chambers in Sri Lanka have requested all political parties to shed differences and set up a government of national unity and reconciliation. The forum representing business chambers and employer organizations has requested the President, the Leader of the Opposition and all elected representatives to join in the national interest and overall socio-economic stability of Sri Lanka. The Joint forum of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Employers Organizations & Trade Associations of Sri Lanka in a letter addressed to the President have stated, "It is the need of the hour to discharge your obligations towards the present and future generations of Sri Lankan citizens. We are confident that all of Sri Lanka’s civil society will endorse our appeal to you". The forum points out that they were well aware that the high defense spending and rising oil prices were taking a major portion of government revenue leaving hardly anything for development. They have warned of possible anarchy if the high cost of living is not arrested.
