Elections Department ready for referendum

The Elections Commissioner’s office yesterday issued instructions to district Returning Officers to commence initial work for the upcoming referendum on 21 August.

Organising nearly 10,000 polling stations, preparing polling lists, printing ballot papers, arranging postal voting and mobilising elections staff are among the main tasks for the second referendum in the country’s history.

The symbols will be the pot and the lamp. The ‘yes’ vote will be symbolised by the lamp while ‘no’ will be represented by the pot.
