The President of Sri Lanka Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga conveyed her best wishes to the President of France, Jacques Chirac on the National Day of France, July 14. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga wished the people of France prosperity and progress and expressed her sincere hope to further strengthen and expand relations into new areas of bilateral and international co-operation. The full text of the message as follows: His Excellency Jacques Chirac Excellency, On behalf of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka and my own behalf, it gives me great pleasure to extend to you, the Government and the people of France, our warmest felicitations and sincere good wishes on the joyous occasion of the National Day of France. The traditionally close ad cordial relations existing between France and Sri Lanka, nurtured by a commonality of interests and shared democratic values, have been consolidated in the recent past following my official visit to France in March this year. It is my sincere hope that these relations will be further strengthened and expanded into new areas of bilateral and international co-operation. I look forward with confidence to an intensification of exchanges and interactions at all levels between our two countries. I wish to avail myself of this opportunity to extend my good wishes for Your Excellency’s personal well-being and happiness, as well as for the continued prosperity and progress of the people of France.
