Indian know-how for energy efficiency at Lanka Transformers
[July 21, 2001]

Lanka Transformers Limited [LTL] and Confederation of Indian Industry [CII] signed an agreement recently to promote energy efficiency in Sri Lankan Industries and commercial establishments.

“Local industry should consider CII-LTL venture as a mega opportunity.  Energy intensive industries such as glass, cement, hotels, commercial buildings and big shopping complexes can record large energy savings,” said Mr. S. Ragupathy, Senior Advisor CII.

The basic objective of CII – India’s premier business Association - is to promote industrial growth and to facilitate international trade. “To achieve competitiveness, cost-reduction is fundamental and this should be emphasised more often.  It is possible to reduce costs by as much as 5% every year,” said Mr Ragupathy.

As a part of the agreement, CII would also provide training on energy management for LTL staff.  CIIs Energy Management Division commenced operations in 1991, and this is the first agreement signed with a company in another country.
