Sri Lanka won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics [IOI] – an algorithmic programming competition for students from secondary schools worldwide. The competition was held in Finland from 14th to 21st July. Nayana Somaratne of Royal College, Harsha Dantanarayana of Ananda College and Pramila Ariyaratne of D S Senanayake College won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively. The International Olympiad in Informatics [IOI] is one of six international Science Olympiads, which tests the candidates individually in solving a set of algorithmic programming problems using the computer as a tool. The main goals of the IOI are to stimulate interest in informatics and bring together exceptionally talented students from various countries and encourage them to share scientific and cultural experiences. Sri Lanka has been successful at this annual event since 1992 having won 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 6 Bronze medals.
