An NYK vehicle carrier with a capacity of 5,055 cars underwent major repairs at the drydocks of Colombo Dockyard for bottom damage repairs early this month. The main job consisted of the renewal of damaged bottom shell plates and internals, amounting to 35 tons. "She was in the drydocks and has already sailed away," a company official said. Colombo Dockyard Ltd., formerly Colombo Drydocks Ltd., was incorporated in 1982 as a private company and converted to a public company in 1983. It owns and operates four drydocks, which are of 100,000, 30,000 and two of 8,000 each, dead-weight tonnage capacity. The company is engaged in ship repairs, shipbuilding and heavy engineering for the international market.
