New batch enters Moratuwa University
[August 4, 2001 - 06:20 GMT]

A new batch of students entered the University of Moratuwa recently. The entire class consists of 555 engineering students who have been selected from the GCE A/L examinations. Sixty more students have been enrolled this year, than the previous year.

This is the second batch that will follow the new curriculum implemented at the Moratuwa University. Last year, the Faculty of Engineering carried out a major revision of the B.Sc. Engineering curriculum after consultations with the industry in an effort to meet the current demands of the country.

One of the major advantages of the new system, which also works towards emulating western education systems, is the greater flexibility for students to select their subjects.

The new system gives more emphasis in improving communication, IT and management skills. All engineering students are also required to undergo a mandatory internship of six months prior to graduation.
