The UNICEF has selected a painting by a Sri Lankan girl student as one of the best in the world. There were 125 entries.

This painting by 14-year-old Kalpani Sooriarachchi from Ratnavali Balika Maha Vidyalaya in Gampaha is already on display in over 100 countries.

UNICEF has selected Kalpani’s painting for their World Calendar for the year 2002.

“She is a talented artist and is good in her studies as well” said H. A.H. Jayawardena, Principal of her school.

Kalpani was just twelve years old, when she finished her award winning piece of art titled “World by the year 2000”.
