“Pakistan’s relations with Sri Lanka have, been cordial, co-operative and free from friction from the very beginning,” stated Mr. Ashraf Qureshi, High Commissioner for Pakistan in his message issued to mark the Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Pakistan celebrates the 54th Anniversary of its Independence today.

He further stated that since its creation, Pakistan had been committed to a policy of friendship towards all and in particularly towards its neighbours. Since independence leaders of the two countries have striven to build on these linkages to establish abiding bonds of friendship and mutually beneficial political and economic co-operation.

The High Commissioner wished for early restoration of peace and harmony in Sri Lanka, essential for the continued progress and prosperity of its people. “We support Sri Lanka’s efforts to ensure its security and territorial integrity and to safeguard its sovereignty,” he added.
