FTZ employees to get accommodation facilities
[August 14, 2001 - 13:15 GMT]

“The scheme of providing residential facilities for female employees would be inaugurated in all Free Trade Zones,” said Women’s Affairs Minister Sumedha Jayasena, addressing the foundation laying ceremony for a new hostel for female employees at the Biyagama FTZ, last Thursday.

According to the World Bank Development Indicators 2000, Sri Lanka has the lowest labour cost per worker in manufacturing.

This hostel will be set up at a cost of Rs. 40 billion. It is intended to provide accommodation for about 5,000 employees of the Biyagama FTZ. Initially, hostel facilities for 300 female employees will be provided.

The Board Of Investment of Sri Lanka administers Sri Lanka’s Free Trade zones.
