“India and Sri Lanka enjoy a rare understanding of each other” – Indian High Commissioner

“As countries that are multicultural and home to pluralism of language and faith, India and Sri Lanka enjoy a rare understanding of each other,” said the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka issuing a message on the today’s anniversary of India’s 54th Independence Day. 

“Our multifaceted links are bound to strengthen not just at the governmental levels but people to people,” the High Commissioner’s message said.

Bilateral trade between India and Sri Lanka has reached over US$ 658 million annually. There are sixty-seven Indian companies operating in joint ventures in Sri Lanka, while seventy-eight more have been approved. Sri Lanka has worked closely with India in various regional and international fora.
