Soon after the victory

Bathiya and Santhush made Sri Lanka proud when they won the Silver Award at the 'Azia Dauysy', World Music Festival and awards held in Kazakhstan, Russia earlier this month. The duo was rated No.2 in the Euro-Asia Region and No.1 in Asia.

The festival, organised by the “Voice of Asia” International Music Foundation attracted many entries from Europe and the Asian region. 16 entries from 14 countries were chosen by a 14-member panel of judges for the finals held in Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan.

Their first album ‘Vasanthaye’ was released in 1998. Since then they have invariably been in the charts almost every week producing seven No. 1 hits in Sri Lanka. “From our small days we were engaged in music,” they explained. Bathiya and Santhush are both students of classical western music and have been singing with Mary Ann Singers of Mary Ann David – a classical choral group - for ten years.

Both in their early twenties, Bathiya and Santhush exude the exuberance of Sri Lanka’s youth.

“Well...at the beginning no one took us that seriously, it was only after our first performance where we present our hit songs Siri Sangabodi, Life and Manusathkule, that people started taking us seriously”, Santhush said.

When you’re young and rearing to go, how high do you aim?

“When you hear Jamaica you know it is Bob Marley. We also want to create an identity in this industry,” the two said.

Bob Marley! High enough indeed. They’ve inspired Sri Lanka to new heights in music. Now they’re ready to take on the world.
