The United States has expressed concern about Sri Lanka’s political uncertainty and its possible impact on the prospects for peace and economic growth in the country, a statement issued by the US embassy said Thursday. “It is our hope that stable government can return to Sri Lanka soon,” the statement said. Meanwhile Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has responded to Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake’s invitation for direct talks on forming a government of national reconciliation and conveyed the UNP’s willingness to discuss the current political crisis with the ruling People Alliance.
