The statue of Saumyamoorthy Thondaman, the former leader of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) was erected next to similar statues of Sinhala leaders at the old Parliamentary Complex premises in Colombo.

She also expressed her admiration for the total commitment of the late leader to his peoples’ cause and for keeping them united and always treading the “path of democracy”.
