The National Film Corporation will set up a National Film Institute and a National Film Archive in Colombo at a cost of Rs. 130 million. The construction of the National Film Archive will begin this year with said Dr Sarath Amunugama, Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management. The Institute is expected to give a boost to Sri Lanka’s film industry struggling for survival since the arrival of television more than twenty years ago. The Institute will include an auditorium, theater, video centers and teaching facilities, and is scheduled to begin operations in 2002. The construction of the complex is scheduled to be completed by the year 2003.
