The Department of Poor Relief has set up forty-two Counselling Centres at local level throughout the country. The main aim of these centres is to offer counselling facilities to the poor families of the area. Each centre has a qualified volunteer counsellor. There are also house-to-house visiting programmes to educate the poor on their mental and emotional health. “Already there is a very good response to these centres,” a spokesperson of the Department of Poor Relief said. Thirty more Counselling centres will be opened before the end of 2001.
