[September 8, 2001 - 9:00 GMT]

A 108-foot Buddha stupa, the largest in the western world, has arisen in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

Work on this monument was initiated in 1988. It is being described as "a symbol of Buddhism's migration and development in the West."

The Dharmakaya stupa is located 8500 feet above sea level, enshrined in it, is an 18-foot 'seated Buddha statue' finished in gold leaves.

The Stupa is a tribute to Chogyam Tunga Rinpoche who played a major role in the propagation of Buddhism in the western world.

Colorado's premier newspaper The Denver Post writing about the stupa said, "There are hardly any adjectives for the108-foot high temple, that rises from a mountain clearing at the Buddhist retreat, 5 miles south of Red Feather Lakes. It is eye-popping -gilded and embellished with Stunning colour".
