The Ministry of Industries, Fisheries and Tourism of the Western Provincial Council has launched a programme to uplift pre-school education among the fishing community. 2000 pre-school children in fifty-one pre-schools in the Province are expected to benefit under this programme. It includes a nutrition programme and health facilities. Packets of milk and triposha (supplementary feed) are distributed annually at a cost of Rs. 700,000. The Ministry also expects to conduct five health camps this year. Two camps have already been conducted in the Panadura and Angulana areas along the Western coast.
