School textbooks and uniform material on the way to North-East

Over 90 million textbooks were sent to 900 distribution centres covering Educational Zones in the country, including the North and East, the Ministry of Education announced last week. 

School uniform materials are also ready for transportation to the distribution centres. The distribution will be completed before December to ensure that all students will be able to have them.

All school children in Sri Lanka are provided with textbooks and school uniforms free of charge by the government. The value of the books and uniforms being distributed for next year is Rs. 1.5 billion. (USD 16.6 million).

19 million copies of 200 textbooks in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages were printed for the next year.  The Sri Lanka Army and Red Cross are assisting in the distribution of uniform material and text books in the North and East.
