Work on the establishment of a modern port in Hambantota is to be expedited. A committee has already been appointed by the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Fisheries, Mahinda Rajapakse. The 12-member committee is headed by Ministry Secretary S Amarasekere. Twenty-eight companies have responded to the invitation for tenders for the selection of an institution to undertake a feasibility study.
