6th Annual Asia Pacific Human Rights Conference in Colombo

The 6th Annual confab of the Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions [APF] will commence on 26 September 2001, at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo.

The first stage of the meeting will commence today at a closed session, to discuss organisational matters, review past performances and plan out future strategy. 

This year’s session will carry the theme of regional co-operation and will discuss a wide range of rights related issues. The needs of newly established Human Rights Commissions, NGOs and National Human Rights Institutions, HIV/AIDS and Human Rights and Gender Issues for National Human Rights Institutions and Asia Pacific Regional Co-operation will be discussed at the conference. The outcome of the World Conference against Racism is also expected to be discussed.

Hundreds of human rights activists are expected to attend this conference in Colombo, which is one of the biggest human rights events in the region this year.
