Colombo hosts South Asian preparatory meet for Sustainable Development

The World Summit on Sustainable Development will be held in Johannesburg in 2002. In the run up to the South African Summit next year The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is now making preparations with regional events.

The sub-regional consultation process for the World Summit is now on, in here in Colombo at the Hilton Hotel, and is scheduled to end tomorrow September 29.

The Consultations included a multi-stakeholder round table meeting and an intergovernmental meeting.

A meeting of the 8^th Governing Council of the South Asia Co-operative Environment Program is also on in Colombo with the participation of a high-level ministerial delegation from SAARC countries.
