Sri Lanka’s efforts to conserve its Wildlife will receive assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Government of Netherlands. Assistance will be provided through a US $ 12 million loan from the ADB’s special fund resources and grants of $ 9 million and $ 4 million from GEF and the Netherlands respectively. The project’s main aim is to help conserve natural resources and to preserve wildlife. Biodiversity of Sri Lanka. The project will enhance the technical capacity of the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWLC) and also improve staff incentives. It will also assist the Government to implement the National Wildlife Policy, revised and approved by Cabinet in last year. Planning and management will be decentralised and pilot-tested in seven protected areas.
