The Government of Norway signed the UN Convention against financing terrorism Monday and pledged to bring new laws to curb terrorist activities on their soil. Norway and its neighbouring Scandinavian nations are believed to be among the LTTE’s highest revenue generating areas. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have been using terror in an armed struggle with Sri Lankan government forces over the past eighteen years seeking a separate state in the north and east of the country. The group was named a foreign terrorist organisation by the United States in 1997. The Norwegian Foreign Ministry said in its statement that the Norwegian Government would give its fullest support in the fight against international terrorism.
