A four-day Peace Conference, intended to initiate a dialogue between the North and the South to discuss the “Role of Civil Society in Promoting Negotiated peace” commenced today in Trincomalee. The meeting aims to engage the civil society in constructive dialogue about how to make civil society a more powerful actor in the peace process. “The discussions will lead to preparation of an action plan which will highlight the role of religion, professional and civil society and NGOs in peace building,” said Dr. Jehan Perera, Media Director, National Peace Council of Sri Lanka. The Jaffna Centre for Preventive Diplomacy, Sewa Lanka Foundation and the National Peace Council will host the Trincomalee Inter-faith Conference at the Nilaveli Beach Hotel.
