South Asia’s largest logistics centre takes shape in Sri Lanka

The first and largest logistics centre in South Asia, GTL Global Park is scheduled to begin operations October 18. The complex is situated in Seeduwa, 28 km from Colombo city.

The BOI approved joint venture between WT Air Cargo of Britain and Roton Vander Freighting of Sri Lanka has a total investment of USD 9 million to set up the state-of-the-art logistics centre.

GTL Global Park, with a vision of achieving world-class excellence in logistics, is constructed and equipped to surpass internationally recognized standards and providing end-to-end logistics solutions under a single canopy, a company spokesman said.

“We are geared for any industry”, Ravi Karunanayake, Chief Executive Officer of GTL said.

He added that with their one-stop-shop concept, 365 day-24 hour service, central quality audit and BOI, Customs and SriLankan Airlines Security on cargo, it would be very convenient for any exporter to avail himself of total logistics solutions with just a telephone call.

Cross docking, customs management, pre-retail vacuum processing (vacpac), EDI links, sea and airfreight forwarding, advanced computerised ‘track and trace’ systems and fast track customs are are part of the package of solutions to be provided by the centre.

A BOI spokesman said that the Global Transportation and Logistics concept provides transportation solutions that are time-definite and cost effective.
