Sri Lanka’s largest IT Park is schedule to come into operation by the end of this year. The Sri Lanka Institute for Information Technology (SLIIT) in Malabe is the first ultra modern and the largest information technology-training institute, which will provide facilities for research and development incubators. Situated on a 25-acre site in Malabe, a fast developing suburb 14 km off Colombo, the IT Park will provide training facilities for over 5,000 students at completion of the project. The Malabe Information Technology Park costing over Rs. 350 million spans an area of 125,000 square feet. The park will have over 20 laboratories and 12 lecture rooms with an auditorium with a seating capacity to accommodate 650 persons. The software development center of the SLIIT has cost the institute over Rs. 500 million and employs 30 IT specialists with a research and development incubator which provides assistance to about 10 companies in incubation. Over three companies have successfully completed research incubation and the technology incubator of the SLIIT known as conceptnursery.com provides necessary facilities to help the start up companies.
