Lloyd’s List award for ‘Excellence in Commitment Training’ to Sri Lankan Institute

Mercantile Shipping Company Ltd. and Mercantile Marine Management Ltd. of Sri Lanka were awarded the Lloyd’s List ‘Salute to Maritime Excellence Award’ in London recently.

The companies won the “2001 Lloyd’s List Award for Excellence in Commitment to Training” for their outstanding achievement in seafarer’s training.

“Our training is the foundation for a shipping career,” said MSCL’s General Manager, B.C. Jayasuriya.

At the ‘Mercantile Seamen Training Institute’ in the southern city of Galle, students receive three years of training – one year on land and two years out at sea.

Commenting on the award, Captain Kodippili the Crew Manager of Mercantile Shipping Company Ltd. said, “It is a prestigious award where we are tested in many areas such as the methods used to measure the effectiveness of our training, how we overcome our difficulties in training and our contribution to the country.”
