Korean assistance to upgrade Automobile Engineering Laboratory at Open University 
[October 30, 2001 -10.45 GMT]

The Government of Korea will donate Rs 1.5 million (USD 16,483) worth of equipment to the Automobile Engineering Laboratory at the Open University of Sri Lanka.

The equipment will be handed over to the University’s Vice-Chancellor, by the Ambassador Designate of the Republic of Korea Lee Nam-soo Tuesday at the University premises.  The main donor of equipment is Korea International Cooperation Agency [KOICA].

The Automobile Engineering Laboratory was established in 1999, with an initial KOICA grant of US $ 1 million.  Since then the Laboratory has provided training to undergraduates of the University and to technical personnel engaged in the automobile industry in Sri Lanka.
