Jayasuriya notches 7,000 runs in one-day internationals
[November 3, 2001 -10.00 GMT]

Skipper Sanath Jayasuriya completed 7,000 runs in one-day cricket Friday. He reached this milestone during the match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka played at Sharjah.

Jayasuriya, a veteran of 246 ODIs, became his country's third batsman to surpass the 7,000-run mark.

The left-hander, who was wrongly credited with the landmark on Tuesday because of a statistical oversight when he was still 29 runs short, ensured he was not left red-faced again by making 36.

Jayasuriya joined his former World Cup-winning colleagues, Aravinda De Silva (8,430 runs) and Arjuna Ranatunga (7,456) to cross the 7,000-run threshold.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka will meet again Sunday in the Finals of the Khaleej Times Trophy 2001 Tournament.
