The Government of the United Sates and the Government of Sri Lanka have concluded an Air Transport Agreement between the two countries November 1, in Washington DC. “This is the first Aviation agreement between the United States and Sri Lanka and is a further landmark in consolidating the relationship between the two countries,” a press release issued by the Ministry of Aviation said. The new Air Transport Agreement provides the legal framework for liberal access for the air services between the two countries including liberalized code-sharing and charter agreements. The agreement covers both passenger and cargo services.
“Open-Skies agreements have been shown to bring substantial economic benefits to shippers, travellers and communities in the United States and abroad,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta said. “I am very pleased that Sri Lanka has joined us in the community of nations supporting free trade in aviation services,” he added.
