‘A democratic response to terror’ Sri Lankan FM

“Play a decisive role in shaping the democratic response to terror,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lakshman Kadirgamar, he was addressing the Session of the Committee of Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Parliament. 

The Sri Lankan FM also stressed “Rhetoric alone will not solve the problem, it is essential to study closely the question of what contributes to the phenomenon of terrorism’. Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar made these comments while visiting the Institutions of the European Union in Brussels, from November 5 to 7.

During the visit, he held discussions with Mr. Chris Patten, Commissioner for External Relations of the European Commission and with Mr. Javier Solana, of the European Union.  In his discussions with both the EU leaders Kadirgamar emphasised, that for the global response to terror to be truly effective, all terrorist groups irrespective of whether they target developed or developing nations, should be the subject of international vigilance and scrutiny.
