[November 26, 2001 - 11.00 GMT]

The Sri Lankan team on the Everest Expedition has established several national records by climbing the most number of high ascents and carrying out the longest Everest expedition, lasting almost one month.

The team established a national record by being the smallest team to go on an Everest expedition and the first team to reach Mt. Ama Dablam. They were also able to reach the Lake Ghola Tsho at 4,600 meters, Mt. Kala Pattar and Mt. Ama Dablam, an area affected by snowstorms and avalanches. Elmo Francis became the first Sri Lankan to set foot on Mt. Ama Dablam.

The expedition commenced on October 19 and the team returned to Kathmandu November 12. The Everest Expedition Team comprised Elmo Francis, Charith Hemasiri and Marlon Saldin.
