Sri Lanka secures three UNESCO seats

Sri Lanka was elected to three UNESCO committees at the recent General Conference.

Together with four other Asian states, Sri Lanka was elected uncontested to the Headquarters Committee.

In a keenly contested election for seats on the Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP), where states vied for 18 seats, Sri Lanka topped the poll with 131 votes.

Similarly, in another close fought election for seats on the Intergovernmental Council of the International Programme for the Development of Communications (IPDC), where 32 states vied for 18 seats, Sri Lanka again topped the poll with 143 votes.
