Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and a PA delegation led by former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake held extensive talks aimed at reaching a consensus on matters of national importance. The talks were held at Temple Trees, the official residence of the Prime Minister.
“The talks were extremely cordial and we intend to continue this trend seeking a new political culture,” the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lakshman Kadirgamar said at the conclusion of talks.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe had offered Cabinet portfolios to the PA with a view to forming a Government of National Reconciliation [GNR]. The PA delegation has reportedly agreed to support the ongoing meetings at regular intervals to resolve matters relating to the peace process. It was also decided to examine early steps to implement the necessary electoral reforms that will strengthen democracy.
