PM meets Indian President today

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe who is on a three-day official visit to India is scheduled to call on Indian President K.R. Narayanan at Rashtrapathi Bhavan Monday evening to discuss bilateral relations and issues related to the protracted ethnic problem in Sri Lanka.

He will also hold discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and Home Minister L.K. Advani.

Former Indian Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao on Sunday had a 45-minute meeting with the Sri Lankan Prremier.

Rao, the senior Congress leader who called on Wickremesinghe, discussed with him various regional and international issues, the Times of India reported.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe was given a red carpet welcome on his arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi Friday night.

The Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Omar Abdullah received the Prime Minister and the delegation at the airport.

Wickremesinghe arrived in India on Saturday night on a three-day official visit, which is his first official visit overseas after taking office. His party the United National Front won the December 5 General Election.
