The Roman Cathloic Bishop of Mannar Rayappu Joseph, the Bishop of Jaffna Thomas Savuntharanayagam and the Bishop of Trinco-Batticaloa Kingsley Swamipillai have jointly sent a letter to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga urging her to continue to cooperate in the peace process.
‘We appreciate very much the moves you have taken for a smooth transition of Parliamentary power. We earnestly appeal to you to continue to support the peace initiatives of the new Government along with all the members of the People’s Alliance,’ it said.
The Bishops have also expressed their sincere gratitude for all the efforts taken by the President to restore peace in Sri Lanka and assure her of their continued prayers and promises and their ‘fullest support’ for peace through political negotiations.
