Trade links between North & South to resume?
[January 9, 2002 - 11.20 GMT]

Discussions on facilitating trade and business between the North and the rest of the country are now in progress. The possibility of creating marketing opportunities for Jaffna’s agricultural products is also being explored by the FCCISL.

The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) is an umbrella organization of private sector trade chambers whose objectives and functions are to promote commerce & industry and develop private entrepreneurship.

A senior delegation of the FCCISL is now in Jaffna to meet the business community there in a bid to develop trade links between the North and the rest of the country.

The delegation will hold discussions with the Jaffna business community including senior members of the Yalpanam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Senior Government officials.

"It is the view of FCCISL that the establishment of business to business contacts will strengthen the ongoing peace initiative and will also enhance confidence of the people of the North," the FCCISL stated in a press release.
