Major boost for Colombo Port

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority [SLPA] has launched a major programme to enhance the efficiency at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT), the Port’s flagship terminal.

The programme comes into force in a bid to boost the image of the Colombo Port as South Asia’s pre-eminent load centre.

The JCT is the largest container terminal in South Asia with an annual container throughput capacity of 1.5 million TEU’s [twenty foot equivalent unit] The programme is expected to increase its capacity to 2 million TEUs by the end of 2002.
